Bronchial asthma is a condition that makes it difficult to breathe when it strikes. The old adage is that holding a honey pot underneath the asthmatic patient’s nose and allowing them to breathe in the air from the honey will make breathing easier.

Onions are another item found in most kitchens that can help with inflammation in the lungs. Onions are known anti-inflammatory agents. Most people can’t stomach raw onions however; cooked onions contain the same anti-inflammatory agents and can be helpful in easing an asthma attack.

Research has shown that caffeine is beneficial in both preventing and controlling asthma attacks.  Coffee drinkers who have asthma suffer less asthma attacks than non-coffee drinkers. However, this does not include children and is not an open license to drink more than three cups of coffee per day. Caffeine has dilating effects on the bronchi and will help prevent asthma attacks.

Orange juice is another asthma remedy that can be found in most homes. Increasing the amount of Vitamin C an asthmatic person has helps to prevent up to 30 percent of asthma attacks. Researchers have found that people who have asthma have a low level of Vitamin C which is the main antioxidant in the lung’s bronchi. Other sources of Vitamin C are from capsules or tablets, blueberries, and strawberries.

Asthma sufferers should keep a humidifier in the house for use when attacks strike and to keep the air moist during the winter months.  A vaporizer can be made using a pot of water with peppermint oil added to it. Allow this to boil and vaporize the air which will help to open up the airways.

Bronchial asthma remedies can be found in many places other than the doctor’s office; many can be found in the kitchen cupboards and will help keep attacks under control.
